MGA Cerretta: bricco di Serralunga
The hills of Serralunga d’Alba are home to one of our highest and most distinctive vineyards: Bricco Cerretta. With an area of 0.85 hectares at an altitude of between 380 and 400 metres above sea level, this is the highest point of our Serralunga estate. Like many of our vineyards in the area, it enjoys easterly exposure, which ensures ideal conditions: the less intense morning sun preserves the quality of the grapes, and quick drying in the morning reduces the risk of fungal diseases, helping keep the vines healthier.
The character of the soil and the age of the vines
The soil of Cerretta is a combination of limestone, tufa and sand. Being a hill, its sandy nature is a distinctive characteristic, as it is the cemented sands that have best resisted erosion over time. This type of soil, which is part of the Lequio Formation, the oldest in the Barolo area, gives the wine a particular elegance and finesse, with tannins that, while present, are very refined. Our vines in this land parcel are between 25 and 35 years old, and this contributes to the depth and concentration of the grapes.
