Vineyards

We cultivate the land with the knowledge that the future of our wines depends on the health of our environment.

Cantina Schiavenza’s vineyards extend over an area of eleven hectares, a mosaic of land between Serralunga d’Alba and Monforte d’Alba. Most of our parcels of land are located in Serralunga d’Alba and are characterised by east/south-easterly exposure. This particular position gives us fresher wines, protects the grapes from sunburn and ensures fast drying in the morning, keeping the vines healthier.

The soils of Serralunga are made up of the Lequio Formation, the oldest in the Barolo area, characterised by layers of silt and sand. The rest of the vineyards are in Perno, in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, where the soils are sandier, made up of Diano sandstone.

Living soil is the foundation of a great wine.

The management of our vineyards is an act of love and responsibility. Tillage is kept to a minimum and vine defence is based on integrated pest management: we intervene only when necessary, limiting treatments and operations with machinery as much as possible.

Every operation, from pruning to harvesting, is carried out by hand, with care and dedication.
