Story

Azienda Agricola Schiavenza is rooted in the history of Serralunga d’Alba.

Originally named Fratelli Alessandria, after our family, the company later became known as Schiavenza, a term that speaks of our origins. Stemming from the Piedmontese dialect, this was the name given to the sharecroppers, or keepers of the keys, who farmed and managed the fields and vineyards in the area.

It was our great-grandfather Maggiore, from Monforte d’Alba, who bought the farmhouse in the 1920s, settling here with his family. The company is still based in the village that bears the same name, Schiavenza, consolidating the link with its place of origin.

The first wines and the birth of the winery

Our first wine label dates back to 1956. Work began on the construction of our cellar that same year. At that time we sold our wine both in bulk and in bottles, delivering a taste of the Langhe directly to those who so desired.

Our roots in Serralunga d’Alba

We are one with this land, having been bound to it for generations.

Brindisi in cantina

We want the land and its unique qualities to speak through every sip.

Maura, Enrica, Luciano and Walter joined the company in the 1990s, marking an important step for us, with the acquisition of new and important vineyards, including Broglio and part of Cerretta. The cellar has been extended and modernised over the years, but we have always stayed true to our traditional winemaking method.

From wine to hospitality: the agriturismo

Our passion for wine has always been flanked by a passion for cooking, so much so that, in 1997, basically just to have some fun, we opened the trattoria, which later became an agritourism. This has enabled us to combine agriculture and hospitality.

Emanuela joined Maura in managing the kitchen, and the Schiavenza agritourism offers traditional Langa dishes prepared with care, just like in the past, using only our own raw materials.
