MGA Broglio: a unique terroir in Serralunga d’Alba
The heart of Serralunga d’Alba is home to one of our most important vineyards: MGA Broglio. This plot of around 1.8 hectares lies right in the centre of the village, at an altitude of between 330 and 370 metres. Easterly exposure is ideal for Nebbiolo grapes, because the less aggressive morning sun reduces the risk of the bunches being scorched and allows them to ripen more slowly. It is a place where attention in the vineyard translates into superior quality.
The nature of the soil
Broglio is characterised by a clayey, silty soil rich in limestone. These soils are part of the Lequio Formation, the oldest in the Barolo area. These are alternating layers of silt and cemented sands that have created a unique environment where the roots of our vines reach deep into the ground.
The conformation of the land is another particular feature: initially very steep, the slop then becomes gentler. This slope prevents water from stagnating, creating mild hydric stress that forces the vines to concentrate their energies on producing high quality grapes.
